New Dance Nights!

There’s something new and exciting coming to Friday nights in Moate — and it’s got rhythm, music, and a whole lot of fun.

Starting on Friday, 9th May, Moate Sports & Recreation Centre will play host to a brand-new Irish Country Dance class from 6–8pm, led by the enthusiastic duo Debbie and Killian. Whether you’re an experienced dancer or someone who’s never stepped foot on a dance floor, this class is all about having fun, learning new moves, and enjoying some great music along the way.

Meet the Teachers

Debbie and Killian are bringing fresh energy and a love for dance to the community. Debbie has been dancing since she was a child, with a background in Irish dancing and set dancing, and more recently, Irish Country. She’s the one who first taught Killian to dance — right around the kitchen table — and now the pair are just about to complete their Dance Federation of Ireland teacher qualification on 27th April. This will be their first official course, and they couldn’t be more excited to share their passion with others.

What You’ll Learn

Each week, the class will feature a mix of styles including:

  • Foxtrot
  • Quickstep
  • Line Dancing
  • Country Jive

The music will be upbeat Irish Country, perfect for getting into the rhythm and having a laugh — even if your two left feet haven’t been on a dance floor before.

What to Bring

No fancy gear needed here — just comfortable clothes, a pair of runners or leather-soled shoes, and a bottle of water to keep you going. You don’t need a partner either — this class is open to individuals of all ages and abilities, and it’s a great way to meet others.

Who It’s For

The class is currently aimed at beginners, but as interest grows, Debbie and Killian plan to introduce mixed levels so everyone can enjoy and progress at their own pace. Kids are welcome too, and the friendly, relaxed atmosphere means everyone will feel right at home.

Why Try It?

Dancing isn’t just about learning steps — it’s about connecting with others, staying active, and having fun. As Debbie puts it, “It’s for everyone — even if you’ve two left feet! It’s about enjoying the music, making friends, and having a bit of craic.”

Booking & Cost

The classes are very reasonably priced:

  • €10 per adult
  • €5 per child
