New Art Programme Launching This Summer in Moate

Explore Your Inner World Through Creativity with Orlaigh Proctor

Moate Sports & Recreation Centre is excited to introduce a new Art for Wellbeing programme running throughout June and July — a unique opportunity for individuals to connect with themselves, reduce stress, and experience personal growth through the healing power of art.

Led by creative facilitator Orlaigh Proctor, this 8-week series of workshops, starting Monday, 9th June offers a safe, non-judgemental space for participants to explore self-expression, mindfulness, and emotional wellbeing through guided art-making. No artistic experience is needed — just a willingness to show up and be curious about yourself.

Why Art? Why Now?

Art has long been recognised as a powerful tool for healing and transformation. According to research published in the Journal of the American Art Therapy Association, engaging in creative expression can significantly reduce levels of cortisol — the body’s main stress hormone — in as little as 45 minutes. Other studies have found that art-making can help improve mood, increase emotional resilience, and foster a greater sense of self-awareness and connectedness.

Whether you’re feeling stuck, stressed, or simply want to reconnect with your creative self, these sessions offer a gentle yet impactful way to nourish your mind, body, and soul.

What to Expect from Each Session:

  • A welcoming, supportive environment where self-exploration is encouraged
  • Guided art activities focused on mindfulness, emotional expression, and creativity
  • No pressure to create ‘perfect’ art — the process is what matters
  • Opportunities for self-reflection, clarity, and personal breakthroughs
  • A break from the digital world and daily stressors, offering real, hands-on connection
  • An inclusive space open to people of all backgrounds, life stages, and experiences

Each week will focus on different themes and mediums, with room for playful exploration and personal meaning-making. This is not an art class in the traditional sense — it’s an experience in creative wellbeing.
